PF22 Car Architecture Selection, Design Ethos, Engine Selection
As Chief Engineer, it is crucial to have a vision for the project you are leading. A consistent design ethos or design philosophy ensures the team works together to achieve that vision.

My vision for PF22 was a simple car developed with good first principles. We would trust our MATLAB lap time simulation (validated on PF20) for testing architecture decisions. All design decisions were weighted by lap sim points, then capabilities of the team (resources). Most design arguments could be summed down to points sensitivities: i.e. weight vs downforce, weight vs engine torque, downforce vs drag, etc.

Using this philosophy, PF22 was the first car in Purdue Formula's 30 year history to use a single cylinder instead of a 4-cylinder. To present day, it is still the only single cylinder, and the highest placing car Purdue has ever developed. (2nd)
